Is it Food?

If you have read any food magazines over the past 10 years you know that "Gastronomic" science is raging across the world. In a recent article in the New York Times a very famous Spanish chef calls out this trend. I found the article a good start to the debate...Is it food?

We Found A Connection!

After a lovely stay in Paris, Shauna and I have been in Puglia for the past 4 days and have finally made the transition from French to Italian. We now have a connection to the Internet so we will be able to share our Paris experience and our current adventures in Italy. Here are the coming highlights:

1. 3 trips and 2 dinners at Hier et Aujourd'hui
2. The best meal ever: L'Ambroisie
3. The never ending travel day to Trani
4. Driving in Italy
5. Walking a lot and still gaining weight

So please stay tuned and we will post some stories very soon!

Ciao!

Alright, already!

If you haven't been following the haps over at Wet Laundry, you've probably wondered where I've fallen off to. Many thanks to Jeff for keeping the flame going strong. (Please, no protests! We want a free Tibet, too!) I'm not going to bore you with excuses, but rather intrigue you with hints of upcoming posts and happenings.

It's 2008!

I hope this finds everyone well and getting back into the swing of things after the holidays. I must apologize for the lack of entries over the past few weeks. My pledge is to get at least 1 per week. I wanted to see what you, the readers, would really like to know about. Some topics I will cover soon are Top 10 wines, Value wines, and my love of the Nebbiolo grape. Please let me know what you would like to know and learn and I'll start typing.

Cheers and Happy New Year!

Happy Turkey Day, From Spain!

Greetings from beyond the pond, Drink Eat Lovers! After an arduous and eventful journey, Amberly & I are finally in Sevilla, land of el tapeo y la siesta (eating tapas and taking naps), slowly adjusting to things here. Our budget prohibits us from eating out every meal, but suffice it to say that we have had our share of both of the above.

Highlights of our European journey so far include bonafide pub fish & chips and organic red ale in Bristol, a Favada Asturiana (bean stew with all sorts of charcuterie) in Madrid, and a good variety of fixed price menús (3 courses, bread, wine) in addition to tapas in Seville.

Nothing, or Too Much to Report

As you may have surmised, this author has been a bit too distracted by living his life as it is to write about it. We are less than a week away from the end of our roadtrip, at which time I PROMISE(!!!) I will write about one or more of the following topics:

• My favorite DTW foods
• Great food in a small midwestern town
• A Wine 101 practicum (wine primer entry)
• More bad road food (or maybe not)
• BarBcutie (or how my wife got her internet handle)
• and much, much more.

So, hang tight, fellow Drink Eat Lovers. We'll talk soon.

Wine Is Art

With less than four weeks to go before we move, time is getting more precious, and the blogging portion thereof more scarce. I'll let Jeff step in with longer posts at this point (Jeff — care to blog your MS exam prep?), and spend my time on quicker missives.

Tonight, one brief thought, pilfered from one of Jeff's own rants a few years back, and put up for discussion here: Wine is the only art form that engages your sense of taste. What do you think? Is wine art? How so? How isn't it? How does that compare to food? Feel free to post your thoughts on the matter — educated or not, no worry — and let's start a dialogue.

What's Up

I've just gotten around to downloading pictures from our camera onto my computer. 361 photos over 72 days of summer, spanning from an early June barbecue at Crissy Field to this afternoon's farewell get-together for friend and fellow wine blogger, Paul Cortwright, and tromping through a visit from A's mom & sis (including their Yosemite excursion), various summer pies, a hike & dinner with Kevin, Maris & the twins, my company's summer party, and up to Jeff's wedding yesterday.

If that seems an excessively tedious list of events for the anonymous reader, understand that it is a preamble to another event in our lives: an imminent move to Spain.

Dog Days

The dog days of summer have hit Drink Eat Love hard! Between Jeff getting married (five days and counting!), and Amberly & me kicking our move into high gear, there's been nary an entry in the last two weeks!

No fear. I am working out a redacted version of our Vegas dinners, there'll be an account of Jeff's wedding (with a food and wine angle, of course!), and then multiple reports of Vancouver trips toward the end of the month. Hang tight, loyal DELove reader — your patience will be rewarded.

Sorry!

Loyal readers — Sorry for the lack of warning, as both Jeff & I were out of town (together) this past week. We were tending to the serious business of Jeff's bachelor send-off in Las Vegas. We had some great meals and other experiences — what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas — some of which we'll write up for you in this space over the next week or so.

See ya soon!
