(The patriarch of the Solomon family, Albert Solomon, and the great Ernest Hemingway)
Who is "Papa"? It depends who you ask. For me "Papa" represents two very important people in my life: my wife's maternal grandfather and the bane of my high school existence (I now see the folly of my youthful ignorance). Both "Papas" have had an impact on my personal and professional life, but it was not until the annual Solomon family trip of 2011 that the two "Papas" would collide.
In a few hours I will be headed west to spend a week in the beautiful expanse of Hanalei Bay. It has been two years since I have had an extended vacation and the last time I was in Maui with my father and step-mother! Each year my wife's grandfather is gracious enough to rent a house somewhere in the world and all we have to do is get there. I have only had the opprotunity to join the family once in Sequoia National Forest but this year I got some time off and am so excited to relax, enjoy the beach and see some sights.
In our quest to see as much of Greater New York City, Shauna and I ride our bikes quite often. We have ridden to Brooklyn Heights, Ft. Tilden (that was a LONG one!), all around Williamsburg, Governors Island and most recently to the Socrates Sculpture Park and Roosevelt Island. One of the benefits of our long bike rides (the shortest being an 8 mile round trip and the longest 30 miles) is building a substantial hunger and not feeling guilty about going out to eat and enjoying a bottle of wine. After our ride this week we headed to one of our favorite Williamsburg restaurants, Diner, and enjoyed a near perfect bottle of wine.
Drink Eat Love has been working on providing you with my thoughts on the world of wine, food and spirits. Throughout the years you have asked me a few questions but I would like to you to ask me more. Do you have questions on food and wine pairings, specific wine regions, wine making or cooking techniques, organic versus not organic or anything else? Just ask!
