Sometimes a glass of beer does wonders for my mental health. In early September I was in San Francisco for a wine tasting and to clear my palate after trying 100 wines I headed to City Beer Store. My friend and I asked for a flight of beers and our "beer leader" brought us a selections of beers that were all across the board, but one stood out: Valeir Extra IPA by Brouwerij Contreras. This beer had everything anyone could ever want out of any type of drink: beautiful aromatics, balanced flavors, and great drink ability. The moment I lifted the glass to my nose I was hooked!
This was a wonderful weekend of food and wine at our little household. It is not often that I find myself home on both Saturday and Sunday, but it is one of the positives of my most recent surgery. Since I am homebound we decided to invite friends over for dinner and crack open a slew of wines. The first wine of the night, Villa Matilde Falanghina 2008, was inhaled and the group decided that we needed another. So I hobbled to the fridge and pulled out a sample that I was curious about....and now I'm in love with!
A week ago today I had, what I hope, is the final surgery on my knee (I have something called PVNS). It has been a long week of rest, ice, Vicodin, and one very awkward shower, but I'm on the road to recovery. Today is normally the Monday Night Wine post but I have not tried a wine that has jumped out at me this week. I did try some really yummy wines (I had vendor meetings at my house this week...a bit awkward too) and there were some very beautiful wines but nothing that screamed Monday night wine. I'm not sure if the pain killers have got my sniffer and palate out of whack, but I am in search mode and will find something great soon! In the meantime harvest is nearly complete around the world (the Northern Hemisphere), so I'm trying to get some information on various vintage reports and will let you know soon!

Throughout the past three years of writing this blog, the most common question I have been asked is, “Where can I find this wine?”. Since I live in California, it was difficult to give a firm answer for those non-local readers, but now you too can join in the fun of handcrafted and soulful wines.
