Looking at that sunset for a week made it very difficult to muster up the energy to blog, but I'm back in San Francisco and thought I'd share a few wine memories of our trip to the south side of Maui.
This was my first time checking a case of wine as my luggage for vacation...and I'll be doing it again. On American Airlines all bags no matter if it is a box of wine or tons of clothes cost $20. There is no better way to celebrate while on vacation and when not going to a place that actually makes wine (Yes, there is a winery on Maui...but come on!) why not have wines you know you will like! I have recently consolidated all of my wine together and I took this trip to bring some wines that I had been saving for that special occasion.
The top wine of the 12 was the wine to the right and it was wonderful! This goes to show that saving great vintage Champagne is an ethereal experience everyone should have a few times in their lives. What is so cool about aged Champagne is that the effervescence is toned down and the wine begins to turn into liquid honey, but you risk getting vinegar if you wait too long. How do you know how long to wait? In this case I had tasted the wine before and could tell it still had time on it (look for vibrancy, freshness, and the wine still being bright. If it is starting to have more secondary flavors aka no fruit, then it is time to drink up) The whole family agreed this was a very tasty wine and that I should have brought (aka bought) more, alas this was my last bottle.
To juxtapose the Bollinger I brought another "special" wine that I had been saving. This polar opposite made me realize that it is always better to get a wine on the up swing verus the down (It is my opinion that I would rather drink a wine a tad too early than late). I had dreamed about this wine...its less pedigreed brother was the first Champage I ever had and it changed my life. I bought this wine in late 1999 and have moved it from Texas to LA to Oakland to Saint Helena, and then to SF. It had been kept in a perfect cellar for most of its life but it was kaput, dead, even gross. I tried my best to like it but Karen said it best, "I just don't like it." The wine was over the hill and had lost its soul, elegance, fruit, and even the yeastiness. It was just a pink glass of acidity. Too bad, but we all need to learn the lesson....if you want to drink that "special" bottle of wine on Tuesday night meatloaf night DO IT!
The rest of the case was not nearly as pricy but very tasty. My two favorites were the Domaine Sigalas, Assyrtiko from Santorini in Greence and the LIOCO Sonoma County Chardonnay. Both wines were expressive, vibrant and kept me cool on the patio in the heat and humidity!
So when you travel, carry on your clothes and check your wine, that is only if you want to have a good time!
This is known that cash makes people free. But how to act if someone does not have money? The one way is to receive the business loans and just sba loan.
