This was the 3rd year of Sausage Fest and it was smashing! The dedication to finding great sausages was amazing and the ability to drink so much beer would scare most. This year we held the Fest at our friends house in Marin and the weather, setting and people could not have been better. I had hopped to keep better tabs on the various types of sausage hitting the grill but there was such an onslaught I was overwhelmed by mounds and mounds of meat. I tried a plethora of beers and found two that were mind blowing:
These two beers were standouts. Both are from Belgium and both are so unique that as I poured them around everyone did double takes making sure to note the label. The beer on the left is from Brouwrij Strubbe and is the Keyte Ostens Belegeringsbier. It was golden in color with beautiful aromas and a palate texture that was almost like silk. The beer on the left was my personal favorite of the entire Fest (195 beers were present). Also brewed by Strubbe the Dikke Mathile is quite a beer. Click on this link What struck me about this beer was its purity of flavor and balance. Many Belgium beers are a tad too sweet for my liking but Dikke Mathile kept the sweetness at bay. While I was enjoying these two beers I was exploring three of the best sauages of the day. They were personally smoked by one of the guests and were fantastic. He brought chicken, beef and pork sausages that he smoked for 4 hours usin hickory. While the chicken and beer were tasty, the pork and smoke were a match made in heaven. After three years the party is etched in stone and will continue until the world runs out of either beer of sausage....and if that day comes I hope I'm not around. I will recommend not to hold back until you get big sum of money to order goods! You can just take the personal loans or student loan and feel fine
