Every morning for three days the above table greeted my colleagues and I at 9 A.M. For most, a long table filled with wine is a daunting and mind numbing task, but for the one hundred retailers and journalists it was a challenge. The Alba Wine Exhibition is a four day event that presents the most recent vintages of wines from the Roero DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Barolo DOCG. Due to scheduling I was only able to attend the last three days and did not taste any of the wines from Roero and missed the majority of the Barbarescos. The experience to taste wines from the same vintage, grouped by commune, and sub-region (menzione geografica) was one of the greatest educational opportunities afforded to me.

I just finished tasting twenty four wines. I have a bit of a backlog of samples in my office so I am trying to get through two cases per week on my never ending hunt for good wine. Today's wines ranged in retail price from $10 to $60 and from Washington state to the Yarra Valley of Australia.

After three full days of tasting Barbarescos and Barolos there was one wine that prevented my palate from becoming a complete wreck. Without this cool, crisp, refreshing, and beautiful wine my palate would be done and I would have to find a new line of work. The Vietti Roero Arneis saved not only my tongue but my sanity. Tasting 100 hard tannic wines in one day is very taxing and actually leaves the mouth sore and the mind a bit numb, but with a jolt of acidity the palate is revived and I can do it all again

I have only been home for three days and I have tried a ton of wine and most of it has been really good. Trying to decide which of the wines to post for Monday Night Wine was really difficult but one wine kept popping back into my memory:Bodegas Muga, Rioja Reserva 2005.
