I was originally going to write about a Sauvignon Blanc and a Zinfandel but while shopping for fish I ran into a friend who had other plans for me. He asked me what I was going to write about tonight and told me he had THE Monday Night Wine. We went to his car, he pulled out the bottle and I took a pull straight from the bottle. He was right and I decided that this crazy, Spainish, and slighlty fizzy white from one of the best producers of Cava, Avinyo was the wine to spread the word on.
Wine: Avinyao, Vi D' Agulla
Grape: Petit Grain Muscat
Vingtage: 2007
Origin: Penedes, Spain
Retail: $17
Website: Avinyao
Fun Fact: Vi d' Agulla means "wine with a prickle" because it has a slight effervescence.
Tasting Notes: Vi d' Agulla is a very pale straw yellow color with hints of green in the rim. It is a young and fresh wine that is to be enjoyed in the moment as quickly as possible (I am trying my hardest not to finish off the bottle, as Shauna is not home yet). The wine has a touch of Carbon Dioxide still trapped in it, making the wine slightly fizzy, hence its name, "wine with a prickle". Vi D' Agulla is very aromatic with hints of honeydew melon, white peache, honeysuckle, and chalk. The palate is vibrant and just as expressive as the nose. The wine is light, clean and very easy to drink. I look forward to enjoying this with the Harvey's on top of their house-boat as soon as possible. The light nature of the wine mixed with the fizz makes this a great wine for fried foods, salads, and goat cheeses. If you want to be adventurous make fried goat cheese balls and top a mixed green salad and enjoy!.
