Monday Night Wines (8/11/2008): My favorite Beer
This past weekend Shauna and I headed up to Lake Shasta for a house boating weekend with our friends. This was our first time house boating and we look forward to next year. There is nothing more relaxing than sitting on a cool blue lake with an ice cold beer in your hand. That said this week's Monday Night wine is devoted to the beer that helped make our weekend so much fun.
Beer: Trumer Pils
Origin: Berkeley, California
Style: Pilsner
Price: $8.99 per 6-pack
Website: http://www.trumer-international.com/
Fun Fact: Trumer Brauerei was first established in 1601 in Salzberg, Austria. In 2003, Josef Sigl VII choose Berkeley, CA as the location for the second brewery in the history of Trumer. Berkeley was picked because the water source is almost identical to the water source used at the brewery in Salzberg.
Tasting Notes: Trumer is one of the cleanest, crisp, and most refreshing beers I have ever tried. The key to a great Pilsner is the tight "Champagne" like bubbles and Trumer has them; once you pour the beer you will see the tiny bubbles help create the perfect head before you take your first sip. The nose is fresh and bright with hints of mixed citruses (orange and lemon peel) and a touch of savory spice The palate is clean and explodes with the tight bubbles and only on the end do you get a pop of balanced bitterness from the hops. If you are looking for a beer to refresh you, cool you off, or just to watch the Olympics this is your new beer!
