The past few weeks have been a long, intense and important time in my life. Five weeks ago, I left my job at Andronico's Market (www.andronicos.com) and took a national buying position at Cost Plus World Market. I believed this was the right step for me: more money, more stores, and more buying "power". Unfortunately, I was wrong.
I took the job knowing that CPWM is a value oriented store. I had convinced myself that with the increase in salary I could buy the wine that I enjoyed drinking and buy and sell whatever was asked of me. In a very short time I learned one of the most important lessons of my professional life...do not tread on your passion. My passion is wine, it will always be wine, and I will never turn my back on that again. I got into the wine business because I loved turning people on to new and exciting wines at every price point and did not want to be put in a specific box with what I could buy and sell. Though some may think I'm crazy for leaving a job after four short weeks, I knew in that it was not for me. In the end your heart and passion are what should guide you.
Cheers!
Sorry to learn of your stresses. I put in 4 years buying wine for cpwm. crazy, I know!
